Funding & cost coverage

Some people need a special place to build trust, discover their own strengths and gain new experiences. Meeting horses can give valuable impulses along the way. At the Sommerhof in Ulm-Unterweiler, we offer individual riding therapy for children, young people and adults with a range of support needs.

Who is it for?

Riding therapy can especially help people who

  • struggle with self-confidence or self-esteem,
  • need support in dealing with their feelings,
  • face challenges in social behaviour or relationships,
  • have difficulties with concentration, body awareness or self-regulation,
  • are burdened by difficult life circumstances,
  • need individual support because of a disability or developmental differences.

What can meeting a horse do?

In a safe setting and adapted to personal needs, important steps in development can be encouraged:

  • strengthening self-confidence and self-efficacy
  • building trust and shaping relationships
  • noticing one’s own feelings and boundaries
  • encouraging mindfulness and body awareness
  • taking responsibility and mastering challenges together
  • discovering one’s own abilities and experiencing success

The focus is not on performance but on the person with their needs, strengths and potential.

Professional and individual

The sessions are led by qualified riding therapists. Each session is tailored to the individual. Depending on what is needed, the time with the horse takes place on the ground or on horseback.

Costs and support for families

A session lasts 50 minutes and costs €60. Preparation and follow-up are included in the price.

If there is a care level (Pflegegrad), the long-term care insurance may cover the costs. Whether and to what extent this is possible depends on your individual circumstances and on the recognition of the service. We are happy to advise you on the options.

Would you like to find out more? Write to us using the contact form. Together we will talk about what you or your child need and which support suits you. You will find more offers under Animal-assisted support.
