In the pony club children gain their first experience with horses – with, around and on the pony. In small groups of up to 6 children you learn step by step how to handle ponies.
What you will learn
Grooming: It is not about polishing the pony until it shines, but about learning how to behave around horses, how to approach them and how to care for them. While brushing and currying you feel what a pony’s coat and mane are like.
Picking out hooves: It is a great feeling when such a large animal follows your instructions.
Feeding and care: We explain and practise feeding, health and how to handle the equipment.
Leading: In the outdoor arena you lead the pony in all directions and learn how to make it stop and how to reward it for its work.
Riding: Anyone who feels brave enough may have their first ride on a pony’s back.
In every exercise we take each child’s temperament and how they are feeling on the day into account, so that no one is overwhelmed and every session ends on a positive note. In the group you support each other and learn to share.
The pony club is led by Annika Sommer, social pedagogue (B.A.) and specialist in animal-assisted education.
